Synopsis:
In a city where magic is feared and the dead are worshipped, life is overshadowed by a powerful and devastating storm cloud.
One young woman is running for her life. Another is trying to return home. Both are looking for a place where they belong.
But what Lena and Constance don’t realise is that the storm cloud binds them. Without it, neither can get what she desires.
My Opinion:
when I first read the synopsis of “we are blood and thunder” it sounded so dark and promising, that I knew that I would devour it.
Blood and Thunder
But for the first time my bookish instincts have let me down – and I did not enjoy the book in the least bit. The idea for this story was absolutely amazing and the world building could have been BIG. But in the end I was disappointed by all three points I usually review: the story line, the characters and the world building. This book started with a great idea and was a great let down for me.
First of all I needed one week to finish this book, because it felt like chewing hard bubble gum most of the time. The introduction in this new intriguing world was long and hurtful and in my opinion could have been cut short to give the ending a bit more space to breathe and be understandable. The idea for magic gone crazy or being “Chaos” was great, though it wasn’t so new when I think about Cassandra Clare “Magisterium” series.
Characters
Then there were the characters which I didn’t understand at all. Where the story was going super slow – the character development was not and it was super crazy to get behind who is who, why they are doing what they doing and who I even wanted to like. In the end I ended up not liking a single character, while most of them weren’t even a matter anyway. Lena was super unsure in the beginning but also determined which was an explosive picture and dint make me like her more. Like she dislikes someone and then she instantly starts to trust them which is super unbelievable in my opinion. While Constance seemed to love every male being in her way and also didn’t want a relationship with any of them. You get that I was a little bit confused while reading?
I really tried to love this story but sadly I ended up being a bit disappointed by the storyline and character development.
